How to clean your joints for the best result
There are three ways to clean the joints. The more time you take, the longer the effect lasts.
With the optimal solution, your pavement gets a complete renovation. All tiles are picked up and cleaned before being laid down again. In many cases, you can also flip the tiles. The preparation is relatively time-consuming, but you achieve a great result and can be happy that the paving stays free of weeds season after season. We recommend this solution if your paving is heavily affected by algae growth and weeds. If the tiles are uneven, you should straighten the base itself so that your tiles can be laid down correctly again. Especially in driveways, after several years of use, the paving can become uneven. The joint renovation is a good opportunity to straighten the surface so that the tiles lie optimally once more.
How to do it
- Remove the worst weeds with a shovel
- Take up 5-6 rows of stones at a time
- Clear the base of weed remnants
- Flush the stones with a water hose
- Re-lay the stones
- Then use your Dansand® joint material
The thorough solution requires less time than the optimal one. Still, it gives you a nice and durable result, and you can enjoy a paving that stays free of weeds for a long time. You should choose the thorough solution if the joints are covered with weeds, but the paving is still lying correctly and has not shifted due to wear or poor foundation.
How to do it
- For best results, apply with greater force
- Fight existing weeds with appropriate means
- Clean the joints with a high-pressure washer
- Rinse at a depth of approx. 4 cm
- Sweep the surface clean
- Fill up the joints with Dansand® joint filling material once the coating is completely dry
With the easy solution, you achieve a good result with minimum work effort. We recommend the easy solution if you want to renovate a newer coating or if your paving is not strongly affected by weeds. If there are a lot of weeds in your paving joints, you should consider the thorough or optimal solution. Although you can achieve a great result quickly and easily, the durability will be limited. This is because you cannot remove all the weeds. At the bottom of the joint there may be remnants of weed seeds, root systems and nutrient-rich material, which is a good breeding ground for hardy weeds..
